Welcome to Circ Week

You've heard of Shark Week. This is Circ Week. This week we discuss what a Circ is, why you're missing out if you haven't read about them, and how sex can be used as a medicinal remedy. *big grin*

The idea for the Circs came to me back in the early nineties. My grandparents have a place in Cape May, NJ, one that I visited often while growing up. I love the Victorian houses there, the shore, the ocean, and of course, the pizza. At the time I was thinking about supersoldiers, I was serving in the US Marine Corps in Camp Lejeune, NC. Also a place with sandy beaches and ocean in nearby Atlantic Beach.

In any case, my idea percolated. A group of men changed by the government into something more than Marines, but supercharged warriors with fangs and claws and a sex drive that caused them to only want sex with another Circ. Problem was, there weren't any sane female Circs, just the small all male squad. And then years later, they found one...

Fast forward to 2008. I drafted a proposal for the first of a four book series with Loose Id. And in November 2008, Circe's Recruits: Roane released.

Here's the blurb:

In the three years since Project Dawn disbanded, Roane Weston and his men continue to fight the good fight. Now civilians, his squad--Circe’s Recruits--works for a private organization bent on cleaning up the mess left in the wake of Project Dawn’s rebirth. Run by Elliot Pearl, a ruthless millionaire, Pearson Labs continues to create Circs--people who have been genetically changed. When needed, these Circs take on an altered form, one neither man nor animal, but something in between. But unlike Roane and his squad, the Circs coming out of Pearson Labs aren’t sane.
Why Circs? Because Circe is the daughter of the sun god Helios. She's also a powerful witch known for having turned Odysseus's men into swine when they landed in Aeaea on their way home from Troy. Granted, Circs are far different from swine. But the whole changing into a beast think stuck with me. And Circe's Recruits is a cool name for a series.

I had a great group of alpha heroes, man sex, woman sex, group sex, because the dynamics of their particular pack involves sexual submission. A great villainous group, conspiracy, and one heck of a love story. But I didn't want my Circs to be typical shapeshifters. No wolves or lions. Circs are more like that green superhero we've all read about. The Circs are human, but when they shift, they become creatures not human or animal, but something in between. Claws, fangs, toughened skin, larger muscle mass and denser bone structure.

Come by tomorrow for a peek at the squad, and here's a short excerpt from Circe's Recruits: Roane (CR #1) to wet your whistle.

Zack nodded and reached for his cell phone.
As they merged onto the Parkway, Roane thought about the woman they’d just saved. He stared at his arms. She’d raked him with inch-long claws. But despite the low growl when she’d been threatened, he had the impression she’d wanted more to escape than to harm. Interesting qualities for a lab rat. All of the former patients from the project were psychotic, Circs with no conscience who preyed on the weak. Caitlyn was the first they’d found who seemed fairly normal. Until her untimely change.
Normal. He scowled, wishing he could banish the picture of her voluptuous body from his mind. Her sheer, white cotton shirt had done nothing to mask the perfection straining beneath. Instead, with her every effort to be free, the shirt had either molded to the fullness of her breasts or slid open to accent the slick valley between those bountiful mounds. God help him, but Roane had zeroed in on the heat of her hard nipples as they raked across his chest with more force than her damned claws.
   “Doc’s standing by.”
He nodded to Zack and blatantly stared at the speedometer, causing Ace to swear under his breath and slow down. A low, sudden groan captured everyone’s attention from the back.
“She shouldn’t be doing that, should she?” Derrick asked, shifting in his seat. “The dart should have put her down for another few hours, at least. The ones the PPA use normally do.”
Roane narrowed his gaze when he realized the rest of his men were squirming as well. He took a breath and froze as his dick swelled to a massive erection.
   “Shit, she’s in heat.”

Now I want to reread all the Circs' books but my TBR list is way to long!!! Circ Week is way better than Shark Week. LOL!

Ha. Just thinking about Circ Week sounded so much like Shark Week. Made me laugh. And then I thought, hey, why not. Both "species" are major predators. :)

I like how the idea came to you from mythology. Exert was excellent. Good luck with Shark, err, I mean Circ Week!

Yeah, Diana. I'm a sucker for mythology. Used to read it for fun as a kid. So I like to throw a lot of the old stuff in and twist it when writing my paranormal romance. I'm really into Norse mythology now, so who knows what's next? :)

Ha. Nothing in the pipeline, Iwaites. I hadn't intended Grayson's Gamble, but quite a few readers wanted to know about Grayson, and I admit he intrigued me as well. So arrogant. *grin*

I never say never, but at this point, I have too many other projects in the pipeline. Ask me again in a year. :)
