Namesake Release Date, Maybe

Thanks to Tina for clueing me into this. Namesake is listed on the Ellora's Cave coming soon page as releasing July 21st. My editor has yet to give me a firm date, but I think the 21st is VERY close to the mark unless things change. I'd add in a picture of the cover, but can't quite figure out how to copy and paste using this Mac I'm on.

Scattered Showers...of Posts

Well, I'm spending the next few weeks in Oregon with my mother. I'm there now, actually, and it's absolutely gorgeous. Cool and sunny and all West-Coasty. So my posts will be sporadic, more so than usual. I'm using my mother's MacBook Pro since I can't seem to connect on the Internet with my Dell. No idea why, since another PC links fine and I can see other networks in this area. In any event, no Internet is giving me fits. I think I'm addicted to it, sad to say. So unless I can steal some time on Mom's Mac, I won't be able to post much.

And may I say how easy this Mac is to use, and how quickly it boots up. It even has a Word program... Hmm. I am due for a new computer before mine at home craps out. I've been waffling from PC to Mac, but I'm not sure. Oh well, more to ponder later.

Thursday Thoughts

Did I say Thursday's thoughts? I mean Thursday's sloth.

Some things on my feeble mind:

*To Hunt a Sainte has made MBaM's bestseller list. Yes, it's a new release, but you never can tell what readers will want. And so far, readers want the story. Who knows what later today or even tomorrow will bring? Thank you, thank you, readers.

*If my muse gets any more invisible, I might have to hunt him down and shoot him. Every time I take two steps forward on Gunnar's Game, my last Dawn Endeavor story, I get distracted.

*I have had more edits in this last week than I ever have in my writing career. Check this out: Final Line Edits AND Proofs for Julian's Jeopardy. 1st and 2nd edits for Namesake. 1st edits for Seriana Found. Oh, and I had proofs for To Hunt a Sainte last week. AAARRRGGGHHH!

*Better to be busy than not busy. Whoever first said that should be shot. Us lazy people consider work a four-letter word. Yeah, I know it is. But you know what I mean.

*It's one in the morning and I'm on my second cup of coffee. I'm also writing this post when I should be working on Gunnar's Game. Yes, lately I have the attention span of a gnat.

*Signing off now. Back to @#@!!!$% work. And my muse is totally going to hear it from me about his so-called summer break. I have work to do!!!

I'm Hunting Tomorrow

To Hunt a Sainte releases tomorrow! Yippee! I love release day. That totally makes up for Yahoo Groups annoying the crap out of me today. And it makes up for the bazillion edits I've been doing lately--on other books, mind you--to see the fruits of my labor in a pretty little package.

To Hunt a Sainte is the first novel I ever wrote, and it's my first romantic suspense. Of course, I had to have something paranormal in the book, so there are psychics, as well as bad guys, lots of sexy parts, and a hero named Hunter. It's nice to see the book finally out there after several revisions and tons of edits. Thanks to Laurie, my wonderful editor, and to Kanaxa, for the kick-ass cover.

I did work, really.

Edited my butt off today, not that you could tell. Hopefully that makes up for my sloth this past week. Man, I can't wait for school to start again.

Generation Gap

The family has a new vice: Plants versus Zombies. It's a cute video game on the computer that can suck hours of your time away. I'm quick to monitor the kids. There's one particular zombie that pops up and looks just like Michael Jackson did in Thriller. I tried to tell my youngest son about it, and this is how our conversation went:

5 Yr Old: Momma! He does the dance! Watch him do the dance. (points at computer and has seizure, er, dances)

Me: Yes he does. And you're very good at it. But, um, be careful. You almost knocked your brother unconscious. See the zombie? He dances just like Michael Jackson!

5 Yr Old: (excitedly) Michael Jackson's in my class!

Me: Um, no, no that's not who I'm talking about. You see, this Michael Jackson is--

5 Yr Old: No, really, Momma! He's my friend. And he's taller than me. And he has brown hair. And one time, he...

Interesting how the years between us change our perspective on things. Which brings me to another interesting quirk--revisiting old manuscripts. The book I wrote 5 years ago had to be revised extensively. No more floppy disks, now we use thumb drives. Cell phones and computers nowadays can do things they didn't years ago. So having a character stranded on the road is no longer an option, unless the character is in the middle of nowhere with no cell phone. Or the battery died, or he has AT&T instead of Verizon...

Lots of conventions to do away with things technology no longer lets us get away with. I find it amusing to read old books where the heroine doesn't own a computer. She has no idea how to reach someone because the operator isn't helpful. The old days of simplicity in a romantic suspense no longer apply, because with the information age, it's all too easy to track down criminals unless they're hiding out on a deserted island or the boonies.

But the Michael Jackson conversation with my little guy really put things into perspective. Too funny.
